· CREATING RHYTHM FOR TWENTY YEARS ·

Creative Movement 1 ages 3

Fun, Fun and more Fun! Our Creative Movement classes are for toddler’s ages 2.9 to 4 years old. The purpose of this class is to cultivate a love of music and movement in your child. Children will participate in exercises that develop their motor skills, balance and sense of rhythm. We use a variety of music, song, and movement aids such as scarves, ribbons and other props to engage your child’s attention. Along with learning the fundamentals of dance this class encourages self expression and creativity. Basic tumbling will be incorporated focusing on flexibility and increasing muscle strength.

Creative Movement 2 ages 4

Our Creative Movement Level 2 class will include all of the same fun and exciting activities as the CM I. Gymnastics will now be replaced by introducing tap to the young ones. What a great way to introduce children to musical rhythm. This will become a favorite class for all 4 year olds.

Combinations 3 Classes Levels 1 & 2 ages 5-7

Your child will join us for a full hour of fun while learning. This Combination class is for children ages 5–7. Now that students have entered kindergarten and first grade they are focused and eager to learn. Students will now be exposed to the 3 basic subjects in dance; ballet, jazz, and tap. The instructor will focus on two subjects each week. Example; one week ballet, jazz and the following week jazz, tap. The structure of these classes is very age appropriate. Ballet exercises will now be done at the ballet barre, concentrating on posture and emphasizing proper technique. Jazz exercises will continue to develop motor skills, flexibility, and balance. Students will enjoy learning how to properly turn, jump and count music while executing jazz dance combinations. Tap class will aid your child in developing an understanding of musical rhythm through various exercises.

Ballet ages 7 & up

Ballet is the foundation of all dance. We emphasize technique, strength, flexibility and precision. This affords the student a sense of achievement, confidence and self-esteem through structure, discipline and quality instruction. These classes are graded according to age and ability. Starting with level 1, the student is guided through proper technique and form of classical ballet.

Tap ages 7 & up

From the first time use of the feet as percussive instruments, to the complex rhythmic combinations of the advanced tapper, the student is guided and educated through combinations and rhythms. These classes are graded according to age and ability.

Jazz ages 7 & up

Provides a free form of expression as the student becomes familiar with the many and varied forms of jazz music rhythms and how to apply them to physical movement. These classes are graded according to age and ability.

Lyrical ages 10 & up

Classes combine ballet and jazz technique with strong ballet technique and the freedom of movement and expression of jazz. Smoothed sustained movements with lyrics expressed to explore interpretation and grace are a signature of lyrical dances. Lyrical dance is also a style that is easily incorporated into the ministry in churches called liturgical dance. Lyrical is offered starting at age 10.

Modern Dance ages 15 & up

During the 19th century, early modern dance pioneers created organic movement that used technique; but rebelled against the intense structure of ballet. Incorporating flexed feet, c-curve, and parallel position to technique, modern embodies the free flowing creativity, while using breath and grounded movement. Some of the early modern dance pioneers include Martha Graham, Ruth St. Dennis, Ted Shawn, and Isadora Duncan. Expression and artistic interpretation has attracted audiences to modern dance as a respectable and viable form of artistic expression, along with ballet, tap and jazz.

Contemporary Dance ages 15 & up

Contemporary dance is part of the dance genre, the concert stage. It embodies the techniques of both modern and classical ballet. Contemporary students will learn to move their bodies in various ways while focusing on breathing, posture, and the emotional connection to movement by establishing a mind-body connection. Many classical ballet companies have taken contemporary into their repertoire, and this growing dance form has been seen through modern day choreographers like Mia Michaels and Twyla Tharp.

Choreography ages 10 & up

Students will learn the technicalities of music and apply it to the music they dance to. They will experiment with different rhythms learning to use low, medium and high levels of movement and how to apply it to their own choreography. This class will help students create their own styles to be developed throughout their years of dancing. This class is offered to students ages 10 & up.

Hip Hop ages 6 & up

Hip Hop is the most recently recognized expression of American dance, tied to rap and street music. In this class, students learn the latest dance steps: hip hop, street funk, video jazz and other cool ways to move. This class is offered to students ages 6 & up.

Music Theatre ages 6 & up

This is a high energy class designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of creating a character for stage through improvisation. By utilizing the imagination, these activities will increase spontaneity and develop self esteem. A must take class for all those inspiring actors and actresses. This class is offered to students ages 6 & up.
